Understanding how the JVM uses native memory on AIX by Andrew Hall, IBM UK

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. If native memory runs out, OutOfMemoryErrors that your normal debugging techniques won't be able to solve can occur. This article explains what native memory is, how the Java runtime uses it, what running out of it looks like, and how to debug a native OutOfMemoryError on AIX®.http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/j-nativememory-aix/index.html

A great day on piste with Claudia and Johann
Today I've spent some hours skiing with Claudia and Johann in Fiss/Serfaus.
Deep blue sky, sun, great snow and fun. Thank you.
It is interesting to see that around 3pm there are more and more accidents on the piste.
They are tired and ski like idiots. I've watched one from the lift. On one ski slope the artifical snow guns produced a few icy hills. They stanchioned these hills with crossed red-white wood rods. One guy crashed in the rods and all slide down to the base of the slope.
This has been on the left side. On the right side there is a speed course with a mesh at the end.
There I could see the next idiot ;-) He couldn't get the turn and crashed with full speed in the mesh.
I've decided to get the ski day to an end to get not shot off the piste by one of those sophomoric guys.
Berg heil!

First skitour to Rangger Köpfl 2010
... training for Stiglreith Trophy? ;-)
Friday night I changed my tour area to Rangger Köpfl for the first time this year.
The first 500 elevation gain I could do in about 32 minutes. Ok, I've been hungry and with good fuel I might be some minutes faster.
At January 30th there is the Stieglreith Trophy with 2 times this route and a downhill race between. The total winner time might be about 40 minutes. So the time of the winner for the first part might be around 15-17 minutes. Mmh. I need to become faster ;-)

Two more skitours
... Archbrandkopf and Grünbergspitze
On Saturday I've tried a ski tour to the Archbrandkopf near Inzing.

The start is around 800m and there is not enough snow. You have to be extremely careful or use 20 year old skis. It is a interesting tour. But mostly in the woods.
Today I went to Oberellbögen in the Arzltal. The start is around 1400m and there is enough snow. At the beginning it has been very cloudy and foggy.

At 1800m the sun starts shining and the tour to the Grünbergspitze at nearly 2800m has been great... Powder.
